Refrigerants: a different regulator again
Handling refrigerants is certified under environmental law rather than the Technical Standards and Safety Act. The Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) card is required to purchase and handle refrigerants in Ontario, is earned through a one-day course, and renews every five years.
How TSSA certificates differ from trade certification
Skilled Trades Ontario certifies trades such as plumber (306A) and sheet metal worker (308A) under the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act. Fuel certificates are a separate system under the Technical Standards and Safety Act, and many jobs need both: a residential HVAC installer typically holds a G.2 gas technician certificate alongside their trade qualification. See the trade certification directory for the trades side.
